Des McAleenan was the longtime goalkeeping coach for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. Born in Ireland, he was with the MetroStars franchise from 2002 until his firing on 28 February 2011.[1] He played his schoolboy football in Dublin with the famous nursery Stella Maris Football Club. Has coached world-class goalkeepers including Tim Howard, before his move to Manchester United, and US full internationals Tony Meola and Jonny Walker. McAleenan also coached a boy's high school soccer team, in Newington, Connecticut.
